Pathfinder Portugal arranged for eleven Pathfinder members (including two from Pathfinder Ireland) to jump at the Portuguese Paratrooper School this week. This event was held during 30th CIEP (Challenge Inter-Ecoles Parachutistes - Inter-Parachute School Challenge).
The jumps were made at the Arripiado DZ, the training Drop Zone for the 'Escola de Tropas Pára-Quedistas' at Tancos in Portugal. The aircraft used was the Casa C-295 of the Portuguese Air Force.
Jumping with us were paratroopers from Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, France, Germany, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden, competing against each other in static line parachuting, freefalling, shooting, swimming and orienteering.
All jumps were completed successfully and the Portuguese Parachute Wings and certificates were awarded by the Commander of the Escola de Tropas Pára-Quedistas.
The event was very well run and the hospitality shown by our hosts at the Paratrooper School second to none.
We extend our gratitude to the commander of the Escola de Tropas Pára-Quedistas, his instructors and staff, and the Portuguese Air Force for making this happen.
A full report on this event will follow in the Pathfinder Newsletter.
